Island Hopping

Another day, another Dorada (other beers are available, and to be honest we have sampled most of them); this brings to a close our winter sunshine warm up trip. A couple of weeks in Tenerife back at my old haunt, visiting my old bar and getting a holiday hair cut, followed by a quick island hop over to Gran Canaria for a couple of weeks exploring many of the coastal towns from the east to the south-west of the island.

Lots of good walks, plenty of hot sunny weather, too much food, too much beer and just the right amount of relaxation. We think the Canary Islands would make a suitably pleasant annual wedding anniversary retreat, except when we have other furry friend commitments. Speaking of which, we are straight back into our new vocation as full time dog sitters shortly after we arrive back in the UK.

Just a couple of months before the start of our highly anticipated American Adventure we are lucky enough to have time for a lovely rural dog sit near Cambridge first before jetting off again. I will save the USA stuff to blog whilst we are over there but we do now have our final itinerary in as far as places to visit. We will decide what to do in each town or city as we get there, there is no point in planning everything in advance otherwise it isn’t going to be as spontaneous and exciting as we want it to be.

I will keep this post short as the last 4 weeks have really just been a relaxing time walking on beaches and exploring the islands; not much more to report. However I would like to say β€˜hola’ to a few of you who have contacted us recently, everything from helping out with hotel recommendations in Niagara, booking re-sits for dogs and to new friends that have invited us to call in and visit as we drive slowly back up to the north-west of the UK.

  1. The past four weeks have been absolutely lovely and I know we kept saying we’d go for a warm up in January but I genuinely didn’t realise how much of a warm up it would be. Walking around in shorts and t-shirts every single day has been amazing and walking along the beaches, dipping our toes in the sea and of course splish splashing in the sea jumping waves was so much fun πŸ˜„

It would be a lovely relaxing way to celebrate our wedding anniversary each year but so would cuddling up on the sofa with a doggie or two πŸ˜‰

I know returning to the UK is going to be a bit of a shock to the system with the change in temperature but I’m really looking forward to catching up on doggie cuddles – got to get lots in before the American Adventure, which definitely won’t be relaxing like the last 4 weeks but will be 12 weeks full of exciting adventures 😁

  2. Dorada, my go to drink out there. However I found a new drink in the form of Peroni which is my new fave. Better than a certain someones coke!!

When do you return back to the UK? We have snow forecast this coming Weds/Thurs. I’m hoping I escape on my works trip to Austria beforehand, time will tell!

We’re back in the UK now but down in Essex so we might just escape the snow, fingers crossed because we’re heading towards Cambridge in a couple of days. Hopefully you can grab some Austrian sunshine!
