June closed on a very different note compared to the whirlwind that came before it. After wrapping up our time in Wales, we crossed back into England for a short stay in Telford—two calm, easy days that felt like a deep breath. We met up with Mike for our annual get‑together, enjoyed a couple of lovely meals out, wandered for miles, and visited two zoos. Simple pleasures, but exactly what we needed.
From there, it was back to familiar territory in Gaddesby and the wonderfully chaotic duo, Ken and Wolfie. A sudden spike in temperature turned this sit into a bit of a juggling act. With so much glass in the house, the heat lingered long after sunset, and the boys struggled through some very warm days and even warmer nights. Walks became a strategic operation, and keeping everyone cool was the main mission.
During the sit, we also managed to arrange a long‑overdue video chat with Steven and Tracey in New Zealand. It had been far too long, and with so much having changed for everyone over the past couple of years, it was good to catch up and see young Luna. Definitely something we should do more often.
This year has already thrown us more schedule changes than usual, and June decided to add a few more twists. Our friends in Gaddesby were delayed returning home, which overlapped with our next sit in Sparkford… which then overlapped with the sit in Oundle being brought forward by a day. In true “us” fashion – organised, adaptable, and determined – we solved it. But it meant doing something we hadn’t done in over four years: spending a few nights apart to cover all three sits. We managed it, but we didn’t enjoy it. We’re a unit, and we hope not to repeat that particular solution anytime soon.
Sparkford, as always, was a pleasure. Time with Bonnie is never anything less than lovely, and this visit came with the added bonus of an afternoon spent with Bill, Lisa, and the unforgettable Betsy. Thank you both for the food, drink, and great company – we hope to see you again when we’re back in October.
June wrapped up in beautiful Oundle with Gemma, a very elderly Border Terrier who specialises in sleeping, cuddling, and playing ball in the garden. Oundle remains one of our favourite places – pretty, peaceful, and perfect for slowing down after a hectic stretch.
Next month will be full of family and friends in Leeds and Manchester, plus another sit with Reggie, the big black Labrador. A busy but familiar July awaits.

What a lovely relaxing weekend we had with Mike and yet we packed a lot in. Watching you and Mike feeding the goats was so funny especially the one that took a liking to Mike and almost climbed the fence to get closer 😂 The deer, lemurs and wallabies were so sweet and then managing to fit in a visit to the steam railway was an added bonus. It’s been great to catch up with Mike, Steven and Tracey and Bill and Lisa these last few weeks.
As mentioned, many times before, what we do is for the love of dogs and they are our priority as demonstrated in June. All the doggy parents were very appreciative of our sacrifices and although we manage perfectly well on our own, we truly flourish when we’re together — that’s when we’re at our happiest 🥰😍
