Ancient Briton

Okay ‘Ancient Briton’ could easily apply to how I feel some mornings but in this instance it refers to our day trip to Stonehenge. We have had a busy few weeks since the last blog post getting our American Adventure organised, sorting out campervan storage and having great fun dog sitting.

Continuing on from last month, North Wales was quite beautiful and very relaxing. We stayed just a few miles outside the small village of Llansanffraid Glan Conwy, only a stones throw from the river and surrounded by acres of lush green countryside. Clear skies with almost no light pollution offered us the glimpse of the annual Orionid meteor shower, beautiful views over the fields, hills and river accompanied breakfast, and all this wrapped up in a gentle, energetic bundle of fun called Lily.

Nettie had a cuddly birthday this year courtesy of Ted & Wolfie, a regular dog sit of ours, and although the dark cold nights are closing in the weather was surprisingly pleasant. Birthday dinner expertly prepared and cooked by Stephen on the day as we didn’t get to a restaurant until several days later in Kidlington.

We have now booked over 1,100 miles of train journeys in the USA with Amtrak, that provides many many hours relaxation time watching the scenery pass by (nod to Liz@gtd) and was recommended by one of our dog sit hosts, although that is approximately only 10% of the total distance covered by our itinerary.

We popped over to Oxford mid month to arrange another dog sit which we had been invited to and then enjoyed a cultured day at some of the museums in Oxford and a visit to Hogwarts. This was part of our slow migration southward which led us to Salisbury for a couple of days and an eagerly anticipated trip to Stonehenge. We also took the opportunity to treat ourselves to a cinema visit in Salisbury (many thanks to Uncle Ken for the tickets!).

We are currently enjoying a few days in Castle Cary with a couple of whippets before heading to Sparkford to sit with a couple of Labradors before we travel down to visit family in Cornwall; see you soon Auntie Anne and Uncle Mick!
